MHC AAUP on #ScholarStrike (September 8-9, 2020)

The MHC AAUP Steering Committee wants our colleagues to be aware of the upcoming actions to call attention to the immediate need to address systemic racism against Black people.

As described on the website for the action (link):

Scholar Strike is both an action, and a teach-in. Some of us will, for two days, refrain from our many duties and participate in actions designed to raise awareness of and prompt action against racism, policing, mass incarceration and other symptoms of racism's toll in America.

We encourage all our colleagues to participate in this action in ways that best fit your situation. Among the steering committee, we are cancelling Tuesday's class meetings and/or spending our class time on the 8th - 9th engaging with issues of white supremacy and racial justice. The College's programming around The 1619 Project and its recently announced Anti-Racist Action Plan are timely ways to bring these conversations into your classroom this week.
